Collector Notes:
Vaudeville, an American form of variety show, gained popularity in the late 1800's as workers began to have more free time and income. Appealing to the emerging middle-class, the material was often written for women and children, and thus drew an audience from shoppers in New York. As a display of elegance and success, theatres were constructed with arches, stained glass windows, and carved details to resemble palaces, thus attracting visitors. "The Roxy" is a fine example of this style, with the ornate gold domed ticket booth offering shows for 5 cents. Coordinating Accessory: "42nd Street Performance"
