This piece is inspired by the memory of holding my children when they were really tiny … holding them so close that it involves all of your senses … the scent of the fuzzy head against your cheek, the skin-to-skin warmth, the realization that you can love another being so very, very much. -- Susan Lordi

Anniversary celebrates the constancy of love. It’s intended for lifelong partners who continue to express their love for each other through the years. The older couple appears to “fit together” comfortably. Susan sculpted this piece using her parents as models. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in #2007. The poetic inscription and carving on the back is a lovely discovery which makes the piece more intimate for both giver and receiver.

I hadn’t seen a figurine of a very pregnant woman before. It’s such a beautiful form, and such an amazing experience for a woman, and I wanted to capture this contemplative time in life. -- Susan Lordi

Together, our family is home
I wanted to capture the time in your life when there’s a lot of excitement, happiness, yet a big unknown. This piece connects the concepts of Home and Family — you are creating your own family — your own home. There’s been a shift in your life cycle. It’s about establishing roots in a way that centers and grounds you as a couple. It can be scary, but also has you in awe. Together, you’re creating a sense of place — building something — permanence and belonging. To each other and to the someone else that you haven’t met yet, but that you already love. I wanted the title to have a hidden layer of discovery ... I like the twist of taking a noun and using it as an adjective to explain a feeling one might have, but can’t always verbally express.
I got this for my Mom and Dad. Mom just loved it. She said she put it in a place of honor in her home.

A field of lavender never fails to take my breath away. You experience lavender through all your senses – not only its aromatic fragrance, but its pure visual beauty... its form is uplifting, and the color is gorgeous. In any garden, it’s a standout. It even tastes good! Speaking as a gardener, lavender is just good for the soul – and so, it heals. I wanted this piece to be a healing piece. But it also could be seen as a piece about strength. She’s looking up; her stance is strong and uplifted, like lavender. I named her Lavender Grace... perhaps she could remind you of someone who exemplifies a life of beauty and grace.

Now in its eighth year, Willow Tree? continues to grow, attracting new and familiar customers with expressive art forms that communicate beyond words. Susan Lordi hand carves each original figure. Using family and friends as models, Susan tries to capture a moment in time or express a feeling. I want to create a pure form that speaks through gesture. Willow Tree isn't so much about the tangible piece. It represents an emotion, or it marks a memory.

The idea for Peach on Earth was formulating as our country was making plans to go to war. In a way, it was my response. It’s not about celestial peace, but peace on earth among men – what we need to contemplate now. I gave her dress a very earthy color to ‘ground’ it. The lamb is a symbol of peace, the woman, a peacemaker. Peace – here on earth – is what I tried to portray in color, symbol, and look. -- Susan Lordi

I carved this piece so that it could be viewed ‘in the round’. You get a different understanding dependin gon how you turn the piece. If you view from the side where you can see the man and woman’s arms around each other, it looks like they’r kissing. If you turn it and view it from where you can se their faces and clasped hands, it looks lie they’re dancing – and it’s a totally different piece. I like this duality of interpretation.” -- Susan Lordi

New, 2007
Susan Lordi introduces Willow Tree® Photo Frames. Hand-crafted with the same pure lines as her figurative sculptures, these frames capture the essence of Willow Tree: softly colored and washed surfaces, with carved and metal accents. They feature many of Susan’s representative icons of nature as metaphors for loving relationships, and will complement a display of favorite sculptures. “May the simplicity of these frames allow those you love to shine.”
Everyone knows somebody that lights up a room when she or he walks in. You’re always happy to see that person — it’s somebody who captures the essence of life — who’s fun to be around — who brings energy and light. Like when the sun comes out! When I’m outside on a cloudy day and feel the sun on my skin, it makes me want to turn my face up to embrace it — just like a sunflower. This piece is for those people who enrich your life every day.
I purchased the Willow Tree "Together" figurine as an engagement gift for our daughter & future son-in-law. She has it proudly displayed on her mantle & they love it because it's such a touching keepsake of their big day!

To all who enter, welcome here
The title of this piece is from one of my favorite old Christmas Carols called “Welcome Here”. It’s a cheerful and inviting song. I wanted the wreath to be a beautiful and intricate cut-metal design that appears to come forward and be presented as a symbol of welcome, home and hospitality. The wreath is dominant, but it’s also lacy and airy — almost musical in the repetition of its pattern. I think the contrast of dark rust against her white dress makes an interesting relief. Welcoming friends and family into our homes at any time of year, and particularly the holidays, is a universal joy. Welcome Here celebrates this tradition.
I love this one statue and I am in the process of collecting one for all my pets. I get a personalized stand with their name on it.

I hope it speaks to an appreciation for the little things that make life interesting... and how love can renew itself over and over again. It’s the trust and support of each other through the day in, day out that strengthens love – and keeps us in it for the long haul. - designer, Susan Lordi.
This piece is all about the apple. I wanted it to symbolize many things ... to stand out, be large, delicious, shiny. Obviously, it’s a symbol for teacher appreciation — but the apple is also just a beautiful fruit! A metaphor for good health, for wisdom, for someone chosen for something big ... for a special person who always gives the best of her or himself, and makes a difference in the lives of others. I like that this piece is so open — I’ll be interested to read how others interpret it.
