Willow Tree hand-carved sculptures speak in quiet ways to heal, comfort, protect and inspire. Susan Lordi identifies emotions so important for us to convey, and renders them in simple, pure gestures. About Willow Tree, Susan says, "I try to keep the interpretation of Willow Tree open. I hope this makes it more personal, and allows the viewer to decide its meaning."

a tree, a prayer This is the first Willow Tree piece featuring carved elements on the figure’s dress. The bas-relief tree is a metaphor for the qualities of strength, beauty and peace, and finding them within ourselves each day. The prayer is one of hope and healing; about living in the moment. The title is as much a prayer as the sentiment.

So loved, so very loved
This piece is inspired by the memory of holding my children when they were really tiny … holding them so close that it involves all of your senses … the scent of the fuzzy head against your cheek, the skin-to-skin warmth, the realization that you can love another being so very, very much. -- Susan Lordi (3 customer reviews)

Keeping treasured memories close
The rosemary (symbol for remembrance) is carved into her dress so that it’s not seen as an object separate form her body. The whole figure, then, embodies remembrance. -- Susan Lordi

Hold close that which we hold dear
I’ve learned as a mother, sister, daughter, wife, that the communication of touch can be very healing, not only for the receiver but for the giver. This piece can be about the feeling you get from holding and protecting a child, or the child can be a metaphor for someone or something you’ve loved that you want to hold onto and keep alive … a person, a memory, a relationship. -- Susan Lordi

Love ever endures Size:
6 Inches high
Anniversary celebrates the constancy of love. It’s intended for lifelong partners who continue to express their love for each other through the years. The older couple appears to “fit together” comfortably. Susan sculpted this piece using her parents as models. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in #2007. The poetic inscription and carving on the back is a lovely discovery which makes the piece more intimate for both giver and receiver. (1 customer review)

By my side
Brother and Sister “The sentiment ‘By my side’ alludes to the shared background we have with our siblings; the unspoken support and consistent presents that we often take for granted when we are children, but grow to appreciate as we age. It could also imply that regardless of where our sibling is, he or she is truly always by our side”. – Susan Lordi (1 customer review)

New, 2007
Brother was originally carved in #2001, and then discontinued several years later. In response to consumer requests for more boy pieces, it was re-introduced in summer. This playful push-pull pose between two brothers will be very familiar to parents of boys; it reflects the relationships that develop in childhood and endure through adulthood. (1 customer review)

Awaiting a miracle
I hadn’t seen a figurine of a very pregnant woman before. It’s such a beautiful form, and such an amazing experience for a woman, and I wanted to capture this contemplative time in life. -- Susan Lordi (1 customer review)

Child of My Heart
Price:
$23.99
Size:
9
Child of My Heart Child of my Heart is a tall figurine of a woman holding a young child in her arms. The subtle implication of different hair and skin color is that the mother and child are not related by blood. The reference to adoption does not prevent his piece from being meaningful for any parent and child. As with all of Susan’s sculptures, the piece is totally open to interpretation. The child could have been adopted, or the woman could be the child’s caregiver, godparent, birth mother, etc., but regardless, they share a strong love and bond. This piece was inspired by a good friend of Susan’s who is very involved with adoptions from Asia. The sentiment for the piece is actually a love poem to a child.
