The small, local grocer found downtown has almost faded away except in our memories. Bins feature fresh apples, oranges, potatoes, and bananas out front. The corner door with open sign welcomes customers. Two older buildings are referenced - sign on side advertises Bud's TV and paperbox on the side sells the Snow Village Gazette. Truck deliveries are welcomed at the large overhead door in back. The name was chosen in honor of Tom Bates, the artist. The year at the top of the building, 1943, is in honor of Tom's parents - the year they were born. Coordinating Accessory: "Shopping With Mom".

This new piece captures that special feeling of nostalgia from Christmas at Grandma's. The outside is cheerfully trimmed with sisal garland and wreaths with large red bows. Light spills out on the front porch through the large double doors onto the 'Welcome' mat - inviting guests inside. Peek into the living room through the big corner window and find presents under the Christmas tree and roaring fire in the fireplace which is complete with its own miniature Village on the mantle! In small towns across America, it is common to find an Opera House in the downtown area where local theatre groups have performed for decades. In Snow Village, performances are still held in the local playhouse, and this Christmas, the tradition of the Nutcracker continues. Note the large Nutcracker statue between the large double doors to the main lobby. Ceramic details include railings on the 3 2nd story balconies, roofline ornamentation, and a large ceramic skylight on the roof allowing natural light to the upper story rehearsal rooms.
