    Description:
From "Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. We researched one of the most joyous lines of the story. Ebenezer invites Bob for a bowl of Smoking Bishop, this British holiday tradition dates back to the 17th century. Made from Port - the special drink was prepared in a large bowl and is associated with celebrations and commemorating special occasions. How honored Bob Cratchit must have felt to have his boss and new friend offer him a raise over the Bishop drink.
Where did the name "Bishop" come from? Traditionally, different mulled winter drinks used various clerical terms. While pope was made from Burgundy, and Cardinal from champagne, by far, the most popular was Bishop, made with Port.
The term "Smoking" refers to the steam that would rise from while the concoction was simmering.
Recipes for Bishop require bitter oranges, lemons or grapefruit, sugar, and spices such as clove and nutmeg. A popular recipe is included at the bottom of this document on a separate page that can be copied.
    Check The Details.
From the sculpted horse hitch at the back door to the trap door on the roof, our gorgeous building is full of detail. Elegant features include the large, double bay windows, copper downspouts, and gold trim. As a nod to the Bishop recipe, 2 large barrels of port rest on a delivery cart, crates of oranges and lemons are stored on the side, and window boxes filled with della-robia style greens with oranges.
Like most Public Houses in Victorian England, a side door was used by the working class.
    Accessory:
A joy filled Scrooge and Cratchit exchange a warm greeting under the signpost.
